TRAINING________________________________
In an effort to make a better mannered, more responsive
partner in the future, foals are handled from birth and taught
ground manners from the very beginning. We teach them to be led on a loose rope and to move out with
the handler and to respond to
voice commands. They are expected to move away
from pressure, to back up when asked, and to have their
feet and ears handled. We find that all of this
early training is very beneficial in later training
under saddle.
Training
progresses utilizing the training pyramid, the building
blocks to a strong, fit horse who is capable of doing
the necessary movements to advance up the levels.
During their training they are exposed to many different
noises and distractions, including two border collies
who delight in running around the outside of the outdoor
arena at warp speed. The result of these efforts is an eager,
athletic horse able to keep calm despite outside
pressures and interruptions.
